Braces-Friendly Fall Recipes

The team at Orthodontic Associates of New England loves the fall season and everything that comes with it, like the changing color of the leaves and all the fun Halloween has to offer! To get us into the fall spirit, we would like to share some of our favorite braces-friendly fall recipes with you. These foods are all easy on your braces, plus they are so tasty that even your family and friends not wearing braces will want some too! Make sure you prepare enough for everyone to enjoy!

Easy Ham & Cheese Quiche

Our team has approved this ham and cheese quiche and it is perfect to enjoy on a chilly fall day!

Ingredients:

  • 1 store bought pie shell
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • pinch of pepper
  • 3/4 cup diced sliced ham
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese + 8 oz for top
  • 1 cup cream
  • 1/8 cup finely diced onion
  • 5 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil

Directions:

Lightly saute the onion in cooking oil in skillet. Place sauted onion and diced ham in the pie shell. Scatter half the cheese over the top of onion and ham. Mix eggs and cream together then pour into pie shell. Cover the top with the remaining 8 ounces of cheese. Bake at 375 for 40 minutes. Makes 5 servings.

Fall Pumpkin Bars With Fluffy Cream Cheese Frosting

These soft and yummy pumpkin bars are given the stamp of approval because they will not bust your braces. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup butter melted & whisked to cool slightly
  • ½ cup applesauce
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups canned pumpkin

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. Set aside.

In another bowl, use an electric mixer to blend together brown sugar, granulated sugar, melted butter, and applesauce. Add eggs and vanilla extract and mix well. Then add the canned pumpkin and mix until blended.

Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture and blend. Pour the batter evenly into a buttered 13 x 9 baking dish. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until an inserted toothpick comes out with just a few moist crumbs attached.

Allow to cool completely. Then frost with the cream cheese frosting. Cut into squares and serve.

Fluffy Cream Cheese Frosting

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup butter, softened
  • 6 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar

Directions:

In large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to whip together butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy. Mix in vanilla. Add powdered sugar and mix until smooth.
